All Mama Pea Quilts handmade baby quilts are sewn from top-quality 100% cotton fabrics and may be laundered in a washing machine. The quilts are machine-dryable although they can also be dried outside on a line if care is taken to shield them from direct sunlight which may have the tendency to fade some colors.
Laundering your baby quilt will give it a well-loved, antique look and may create an overall "puckered" effect, especially if dried in a dryer.
Here at Mama Pea Quilts, we use laundry detergent*, a gentle cycle, and warm or cool water rather than hot. There are products specifically marketed for laundering quilts, but using one of these is not necessary. *In lieu of using your regular laundry detergent, you might wish to try Johnson's® Baby Shampoo, Woolite®, or, in the case of skin-sensitive babies, Dreft®.
Should you get a stain on your baby quilt, stain removers can usually be used without harm. We’ve had good success with the spray stain remover Shout®.
Although precautions are taken to insure the colors in your quilt won’t run or bleed onto neighboring fabrics, you can use a product in your washing machine specifically designed to reduce the possibility of that happening. Although there are several such color-preserving products on the market, the one we have personal experience with is Shout® Color Catcher™ which can be purchased at many large discount stores for a nominal price.
Our sincere hope is that you will enjoy your baby quilt and get a great deal of use out of it. With each washing, Mama Pea's baby quilts will become softer and more snuggle-ready!
And, don't ever hesitate to contact us with any quilt laundering and/or care questions you may have.
